Praise be to Allaah.
There is no specific du’aa’ mentioned in the Qur’aan or Sunnah, or in the reliable books of du’aa’s and dhikr, or in the opinions of the reputable scholars, that is to be recited before reading or memorizing Qur’aan. Rather what is prescribed is to seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan before reading, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“So when you want to recite the Qur’aan, seek refuge with Allaah from Shaytaan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one)” – An-Nahl 16:98
English Translation by Muhsin Khan
(16) Nay, you prefer the life of this world; (17) While the Hereafter is better and more enduring. (18) Indeed, this is in the former scriptures, (19) The Scriptures of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses).
A surah milestone day on the best of days for Muslims, Friday. It is also the first Sunnah day of fasting on the three white days of the month 13 (7 July 2017) , 14 (8 July 2017) and 15 (9 July 2017). Alhamdulillah.
InshaAllah by end of today, I’m fully confident that my memorisation of Surah Al-A’lâ will be completed the best that I can, despite the colds I’m having at the moment since yesterday. May Allah grant me cure. In addition to memorising the Surah it is also prescribed in the Sunnah on Friday to recite Surah Al-Kahf as narrated:
It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed al-Khduri that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.” Narrated by al-Haakim; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 836
May Allah accept it from me. Ameen.
About This Experiment
This is a personal daily journal entry of Riz Ainuddin, Author of this blog and Maker of IslamAudio app. The intention for this post is to journal the progress made daily to memorise The Noble Qur’an. It all began when a brother at his work shared with him a YouTube video in Ramadan 1438/2017 of a lecture by Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi. In this video Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shared a story that it is never too late to memorised the entire Qur’an. The inspirational story was of a paediatric doctor, named Dr. Ahmed Nuaina who started at the age where everyone would think it is too late. Now, he is referred to as Shaykh Dr. Ahmed Nuaina. Shaykh Dr. Ahmed Nuaina is perhaps one of the top scholars of Qur’an and recitation alive today. Rizs’ hyphothesis after being motivated by this story, by reciting and reading the Qur’an two lines a day will make him memorise the Qur’an. Also, Journalling his progress in a blog will further enhance his long-term memory and aspiring others to take similar action. May Allah open up the doors and accept it. Ameen.
